NYC Primary Election Update (06/22/2021)
Dear friend;
This week’s Primary has been the most seismic election NYC has seen in decades. Mayor, Comptroller, the 5 Borough Presidents, 36 out of 51 Council Districts - all in play; ranked choice voting; 8-1 campaign matching funds; and an important Manhattan DA’s race. We were in for a ride. Congratulations to all of our clients for leading on the issues, working for every vote and making a difference.
This year, we were lead consultants to three history-making City Council candidates with successful election night results, which we expect will carry them on to victory once all the votes are counted. Our longtime client, Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa will be the first woman - a Latina - to represent Council District 10 in Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill. Tenants’ rights attorney Shaun Abreu will be the first Latino to represent Council District 7; and Lynn Schulman will be the first LGBTQ female member of the City Council from Queens, representing District 29. Congratulations also to Council Member Kevin Riley in the Bronx, where we executed a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) operation on the road to victory in District 12.
We are proud of our Independent Expenditure work with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) to elect a number of new council members throughout the City. And, congratulations also to our good friend and uptown neighbor, Council Member Mark Levine, who as of election night is on the road to becoming our next Manhattan Borough President. We worked with Mark as consultants to his campaign, executing a number of voter contact programs including mail, digital and door-to-door canvassing.
We look forward to the full count of mail ballots in the race for Manhattan DA, where Tali Farhadian Weinstein had a significant showing; and the ranked choice count of votes for Council Speaker Corey Johnson in the City Comptroller race, Council Member Robert Cornegy, Jr. in the Brooklyn Borough President race and Ebony Young in the City Council District 26 race.
This past month, HCN received recognition from the American Association of Political Consultants as winners of a Pollie Award for Best Democratic Field Campaign for our role in last year’s NY-09 COVID Field GOTV program. All in all, a great Primary season for our team and a bright future for the city we love.
Siempre,
Hamilton Campaign Network
